UB Men Nipped At St. Thomas Aquinas, 99-97, In Hard-Fought ECC Tilt

Sparkill, N.Y.-Trailing 86-85 with 3:24 to play, the host St. Thomas Aquinas College Spartans outscored the visiting University of Bridgeport Purple Knights 14-11 over the remainder of the second half to post a 99-97 East Coast Conference win on Saturday afternoon.  With the loss, UB is now 5-3 overall and an even 1-1 in the ECC.  STAC ups its overall record to 8-1, and the Spartans are 2-0 in conference play.

Senior Vakas Iqbal (Staten Island, N.Y.) and junior Bakary Camara (Harlem, N.Y.) led the Purple Knights in scoring on Saturday, as they each netted 19 points.  Junior John Middleton (Atlantic City, N.J.) and senior Eric Rankin (Bronx, N.Y.) rounded out the Bridgeport players in double figures, each recording 17 points.

Osbel Caraballo led six STAC players in double-digit scoring with a game-high 23 points.

Up next, the UB men's basketball team will look to get back in the win column on Wednesday night at home, when the Purple Knights host Molloy College at 7:00 p.m. in Hubbell Gym.
