Bridgeport, Conn. - The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team, who never trailed in the game and led by as many as 12 points in the first plus held an 11-point, 33-22, advantage at halftime, held on for a 68-66 home East Coast Conference win over the visiting St. Thomas Aquinas College Spartans on Saturday afternoon in Hubbell Gym. With the win, UB is now 11-10 overall and 6-5 in conference play, and the team has won six of its last eight outings. STAC is now 16-5 overall and 8-3 in the ECC.
Freshman Jayden Iturmendi (York, Pa.), who hit three-of four key free throws during the final 24 seconds of the game, led UB in scoring with 15 points on the day. He was joined in double figures by sophomore Travis Robinson-Morgan (Elmont, N.Y.) with 12 points and Hashem Abbas (Nablus, Palestine), who netted 11 points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.
STAC was led by Osbel Caraballo who finished with a double-double of 15 points and 12 rebounds.
Up next, the Bridgeport men's basketball team will look to begin a winning streak when they travel to Mercy College on Wednesday night. Game time is set at for 5:00 p.m. in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.
