Amherst, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team held a one-point, 42-41, lead with 19:48 to play, only to see the host and East Coast Conference regular season champion, the Daemen College Wildcats, close the contest out on a 52-29, as DC defeated UB, 93-71, on Sunday afternoon in Western New York. Bridgeport wraps up the regular season at 16-12 overall and 11-7 in conference play. Daemen lifts is season mark to 24-4 overall, and the Wildcats finish atop the ECC regular season standings at 16-2.
Junior Bakary Camara (Harlem, N.Y.) led the Purple Knights on Sunday with 15 points. Three other UB players reached double figures for Bridgeport on Sunday, as senior Eric Rankin (Bronx, N.Y.) netted 14 points, sophomore Hashem Abbas (Nablus, Palestine) finished with 11 points and senior Dennis Green (Bronx, N.Y.) had 10 points.
Andrew Sischo led four Daemen players in double-digit scoring with a game-high 20 points.
Up next, the UB men's basketball team will host Roberts Wesleyan College on Wednesday night in Hubbell Gym in an East Coast Conference Championship Quarterfinal game. UB is the number four seed in the tournament; while Roberts Wesleyan checks in as the five seed. Game time on Wednesday is set for 7:00 p.m.
