Women's Lacrosse Edged At Home By Chestnut Hill, 10-9

Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's lacrosse team fell to 1-4 on the 2018 season on Monday afternoon, as the Purple Knights were nipped in a non-conference home contest by the visiting Chestnut Hill College Griffins by a 10-9 score.  CHC is now 2-2 on the season.

The visitors led 6-3 and held a 9-6 lead with 7:50 that was cut down to one at 9-7 with 7:11 to play on a goal by UB's Shyla Murray (Fr., Brentwood, N.Y.).  The Griffins would score with 1:17 to go to make the score 10-7 only to see the Purple Knights rally but fall just short as they could only score twice in the final 77 seconds of action.

Junior Courtney Furry (Reinholds, Pa.) led the Bridgeport offense on Monday netting a hat trick and dishing off an assist for a four-point day.  Senior Shannon Colligan (Greenwich, Conn.) chipped in two goals and one assist for the Purple Knights, and freshman Julia Ruscio (St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada) had two goals on the day.  Murray and sophomore Barbara Orsini (N. Babylon, N.Y.) each had one goal for UB.

In goal for the Purple Knights, sophomore Cheyanne Gangel (Oakridge, N.J.) made 14 saves.

Up next, the UB women's lacrosse team will open 2018 East Coast Conference play at home versus NYIT next Monday, March 26.  Game time at Knights Field is set for 4:00 p.m.
