Volleyball Sweeps Goldey-Beacom, Punches Ticket to CACC Semifinals
Purple Knights will now face top-seeded Wilmington in the conference semis on Saturday (at Goldey).
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – After earning a home match as the No. 2 seed in the CACC Tournament, the University of Bridgeport's volleyball team rolled to a 3-0 (26-24, 25-15, 25-20) quarterfinal win over third-seeded Goldey-Beacom College on Tuesday night. The victory sends the Purple Knights into Saturday's conference semifinal, where they'll face top-seeded Wilmington.
Just 17 days removed from dropping a four-setter to Goldey-Beacom on their home floor, the Purple Knights delivered a dose of postseason payback inside Hubbell Gym.
Junior Hailey Jessen powered the offense with a team-high 15 kills on a solid .289 hitting percentage. She also added 11 digs to signify her ninth double-double of the season.
Jessen, who has 89 kills over her last 19 sets of action (4.68), has climbed all the way up to second in the CACC in kills per set (3.63) this season. She is also ranked second on UB in digs per frame (2.45).
Freshman Madison Mohan was equally superb for the home squad on Tuesday, serving as UB's most efficient attacker. The New Hampshire native delivered 12 kills at a sensational .423 clip—her third highest mark of the season.
Senior Lucia Tomiello, meanwhile, added an all-around stat line of five kills, an ace, and three block assists. She continues to rank inside the top five in the CACC in hitting percentage (.316) this season.
Freshman setter Camdyn Cieszkiewicz once again spread the ball around with a match-high 32 assists. She chipped in 11 digs as well to secure her third double-double of the year.
Defensively, UB produced 50 digs, led by Elaine DeLallo's 15, and posted eight total blocks, which came from six different players.
UB's best frame came in the second set (25-15), where the Purple Knights hit a commanding .476 with just one attack error. Bridgeport followed that up by never trailing in a clinching final frame.
