Volleyball Falls in Four Sets at Molloy
Purple Knights win the third set (25-23) in 3-1 road loss to the Lions.
ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – Facing a second straight non-conference opponent on the road, the University of Bridgeport's volleyball team suffered a 3-1 defeat (17-25, 21-25, 25-23, 14-25) at Molloy on Wednesday night. The loss shifts the Purple Knights' record to 0-2 on the young season.
Balance told much of the story for the road squad as five Purple Knights tallied at least five kills in the contest. Amongst the contributors was the trio of Hailey Jessen, Cecilia Kowalski and Madison Mohan, who finished with seven put-aways apiece.
Kowalski was especially impressive with a team-best .500 hitting percentage to go along with a solo block and a block assist. Jessen, meanwhile, picked up 11 digs to put her at a total of 21 across nine sets this season.
Senior Lucia Tomiello, making her season debut, added six kills and four total blocks (team high) while freshman Layla Wood chipped in five put-aways of her own.
Sophomore setter Ava Casales kept the offense moving with 17 assists and three service aces, while Elaine DeLallo piloted the defense with 17 digs.
As a team, the Purple Knights totaled 10 aces, 10 block assists and a pair of solo blocks.
