Volleyball Wins 3-2 Thriller Over Felician in Home and CACC Opener
Purple Knights start 1-0 in conference play for third straight year.
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Playing inside Hubbell Gym for the first time this season, the University of Bridgeport's volleyball team pulled out a thrilling five-set win (25-12, 18-25, 25-21, 18-25, 15-10) over Felician on Wednesday night. The victory puts the Purple Knights at 1-0 in the CACC for the third straight year.
Bridgeport's balanced attack, which featured four different players with at least eight kills, was led by junior Hailey Jessen, who posted a team-high 13 putaways to go along with 10 digs and three service aces. She currently ranks seventh in the CACC in kills per set this season.
Freshman Madison Mohan also tallied 13 kills (season high) while adding four digs and a block assist. She was especially clutch in the fifth set when she hammered a team-best four putaways.
Lucia Tomiello was once again incredibly efficient for the home squad, finishing the night with eight kills on a .533 hitting percentage. The senior captain, who also notched four aces, now ranks fifth in the CACC in hitting percentage (.295) this season.
Sophomore setter Ava Casales positioned the offense with a team-high 40 assists and chipped in five digs and two digs as well. She dished out an impressive nine of those helpers in the fifth and final set.
Defensively, junior libero Elaine DeLallo piled up a team-high 14 digs to go along with four aces, while freshman Cecilia Kowalski contributed eight kills and two blocks at the net.
Collectively, the Purple Knights finished with season-bests in almost every statistical category. UB racked up season-high totals of 14 service aces, 47 kills and 45 assists while also posting a .218 hitting percentage.
