Volleyball Claims 3-1 Road Win at Wilmington
Purple Knights move their record to 9-5 in the CACC this season.
NEWARK, Del. – Facing the top team currently in the CACC's South Division standings, the University of Bridgeport's volleyball squad put together a 3-1 win (25-15, 25-19, 19-25, 28-26) at Wilmington (17-12, 10-3 CACC) on Saturday afternoon. The impressive road victory pushes the Purple Knights' CACC record to 8-5 this season.
Junior Hailey Jessen paced the Purple Knights with a team-high 16 kills to go along with 17 digs for her eighth double-double of the season. She also added two service aces and four block assists across the four sets.
Jessen continues to be ranked No. 3 in the CACC in kills per set (3.45) this season. She also leads the Purple Knights in service aces (38) and ranks second on UB in digs per set (2.44).
Freshman Madison Mohan, meanwhile, followed up her team-best 17 kills earlier this week at Post with another 14 on Saturday.
Senior Lucia Tomiello was also superb for the road squad as she led UB in both hitting percentage (.500) and aces (6) while chipping in nine kills of her own.
Freshman setter Camdyn Cieszkiewicz once again did a fantastic job distributing the ball. The Illinois native handed out a match-high 47 assists in addition to a season-high 11 digs for her second double-double of the season.
Cieszkiewicz, who has 89 assists in UB's eight sets played this week, is currently ranked sixth in the CACC in assists per set (7.85) this season.
Two more freshmen were impactful for the Purple Knights on Saturday. Layla Wood and Cecilia Kowalski each chipped in eight kills while combining for just four errors.
Junior libero Elaine DeLallo served as another statistical leader for UB as she once again led the squad in digs with 18. She remains ranked sixth in the CACC in digs per set (3.65) this season.
Collectively, the Purple Knights posted an efficient .255 team hitting percentage and out-blocked Wilmington 12–10 on the day.
Bridgeport came out strong against the Wildcats, taking the first two sets before fending off a late rally in a back-and-forth fourth frame.
UB sealed the match on a block from Jessen and Kowalski followed by a Wildcats attack error to close out the 28–26 final.
